Minneriya is where you will get to see the largest wild elephant gathering. This is the world’s most spectacular wildlife phenomenon popularly known as “The Gathering” where hundreds of elephants parade towards the Minneriya water tank between July and October every year.
Bundala park is internationally famous as a wintering ground for migratory birds. Apart from various bird species, it is also home to Asian elephants, macaques, langurs, jackals, leopards, wild boar and deer etc.
With over 20 water tanks spread across the park, Kumana is one of the finest bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. Bird varieties include pelicans, painted storks spoonbills, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Malabar Trogon, Red-faced Malkoha and Sirkeer Malkoha.
