Horton Plains morning safari ride is a refreshing ride in to the thick wilderness. Early morning (between 6 AM to 10 AM) is the best time to visit before the clouds roll in. It is an adventurous ride. Horton Plains National Park covers an area of ​​3169 hectares and is rich in biodiversity. Many of the species found here are endemic to the region. The area’s vertebrate fauna includes 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, 9 species of reptiles and 8 species of amphibians.

Currently the largest and most common mammal is the sambar. Other mammals in the park include the striped mongoose, the long-tailed giant squirrel wild boar, endemic tiger monkeys, crested monkeys, fishing cats, otters and more. Sri Lankan elephants disappeared from the area as recently as the 1940s. The World’s End and Baker’s fall are the highlights of the Horton Plains. If you are a hiking enthusiast the best time would be to go early in the morning.

The ideal time to do Horton Plains full day safari is the beginning of the year,  from January – March. Set off early as possible to enjoy the scenic views of the World’s End.
